The Dallas Mavericks were n't the only group that underperformed in Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals.
The collection opening averaged a 5.7 standing and 10.99 million people on ABC, per Sports Media Watch, making it the least- watched NBA Finals Game 1 since the club hit its ratings bottom with the 2020 and 2021 Finals. Beyond those two, 10.99 is the club's lowest number since 2007.
The 2020 Championships between the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers averaged just 7.69 people, while the 2021 line between the Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns averaged 8.70 million.
The Denver Nuggets- Heat Game 1 numbers from last year are unchanged, and the ratings also fell by 8 % in 2024 versus the Golden State Warriors, the last Boston Celtics team to reach the Finals.
Given the size of the Celtics ' fan base and Luka Doni's star power, it would surprise in a Finals without the Celtics and Mavericks, but the numbers were impacted by Game 1's uneven nature.
Boston was up 37- 20 by the end of the first quarter and led by as much as 29 in a 107- 89 gain. Most fans watching the game would have thought the outcome was a murder in progress, but there was only a short time when Dallas cut the deficit to as little as eight positions in the second quarter.
Per Sports Media Watch, popularity peaked first with a 6.2 standing and 12.11 million viewers during the 9: 15 p. m. And quarter- hour in the first quarter and fell dramatically.
It was an unpleasant night for all involved, and it'll be on the Mavericks — Dončić and Kyrie Irving in particular — to make the set dynamic. Dončić had 30 points, but on a less than successful 12- of- 26 killing and with only one support, while Irving had just 12 points 6- of- 19 firing. The couple combined for seven turnover.
