Since 2007, Jeff Van Gundy has n't been an NBA coach.
Jeff Van Gundy is now a member of the NBA training team.
Van Gundy will join the Los Angeles Clippers ' workers under the direction of brain coach Tyronn Lue, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Since joining USA Basketball's team several years ago, Van Gundy and Lue have been companions.
This is the 62- yr- ancient Van Gundy's initial NBA coaching work since 2007. After being fired by the Rockets, he began his coaching career with ESPN, where he had previously spent 17 times coaching the Houston Rockets and New York Knicks.
It was a great match. Van Gundy excelled at ESPN by blending wit and humor with a strong sense of the sport. Van Gundy spent his 16 years at ESPN fending off several offers from groups in an effort to return to training, according to Woj, and he is regarded as one of the "finest brains in basketball."
Those groups had their best chance last month, when Van Gundy was laid off from ESPN in June 2023. Instead of resigning from a broadcasting position, he chose to return to the NBA and work for the Boston Celtics ' president of basketball operations, Brad Stevens.
It worked out very well. On Monday evening, the Celtics won the NBA title over the Dallas Mavericks. Less than 12 days later, Van Gundy is back in the training activity.
