Cleveland's great stop is no more, and the final path runs through Boston until another team proves then.
The reigning NBA champions squared off against the best team on Tuesday night.
Something had to provide. It was n't the champs.
In the most anticipated game of the first NBA period, the Celtics put a halt to Cleveland's great start at 15-0 in a 120-117 get over the Cavaliers in Boston. The Celtics won the game in the first half thanks to a Cavaliers march in the second half.
The Celtics opened a 65-48 first-half guide, stifling Cleveland's league-best act and 3-point killing while hitting 14 of 22 of their own photos from beyond the circle. Boston jumped out to a 78-58 direct earlier in the second quarter, and the game was on its way to a romp.
But Cleveland answered with a 30-11 work sparked by Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley to reduce the Celtics ' guide to 90-88 later in the next. Therefore Jayson Tatum finished the third with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to prolong the Celtics direct up to five points.

Cleveland continued to exert pressure throughout the third quarter, consistently reducing Boston's lead by two points. However, the Celtics never let the Vehicles take the lead, instead giving an always-present response.
Temple led the energy with 33 details, 12 rebounds, seven aids and two steals. He was one of six Celtic to reach many 3-pointers on a 6-of-10 energy from beyond the circle. All five Celtics starters scored in double figures as Boston shot 51.2 % from the field and 53.7 % from 3-point distance on a 22-of-41 effort.
Mitchell finished with a game-high 35 points, eight rebounds, and three aids in the Cleveland march. Mobley added 22 points, 11 touchdowns, six help, one wall and one steal.
Darius Garland, whose emergence as one of the team's best soldiers has helped spark Cleveland's stop, had a terrible shooting day. He shot 3 of 21 from the area and missed all six of his 3-point attempt in an eight-point, seven-assist work.
A Cavs team that entered the game hitting 15.5 3-pointers per game at a league best 41.9 % clip shot 10 of 29 ( 34.5 % ) from long distance.
The Celtics ' solid performance and a statement that they are still the team's dominant power added up to that. The Celtics ' final frosting, perhaps? Following Boston's Cup openers defeat to the Hawks last year, the game was a part of the NBA Cup, which prevented a 0-2 begin in group play.
For the Cavaliers, a traditional run comes to an end. Cleveland's 15-0 stop stands tied with the 1993-94 Houston Rockets and 1948-49 Washington Capitols for the second-best in NBA history. Golden State's 24-0 begin in 2015-16 remains securely as the all-time best.
Then at 15-1, the Cavs you move on to the next stage of their season. The added stress that comes with each match is removed, and the unanticipated quest for history is no longer.
And there's no pity in losing to Celtics in Boston. Not the first top-notch team to suffer a 3-point slug from these Warriors on their home court.
The second check for the Cavs is how they respond to the update. Advanced analysis that support their flawless stop and indicate that this Cleveland team is a genuine name candidate supported their flawless stop.
However, until another team demonstrates then, Boston's championship path continues. The Cavaliers have four games against the Falcons, Birds and Hawks before they get their second shot at the Celtics at apartment on Dec. 1.
