Hitting on comeback players is essential in dream basketball. In 2024-23, Dan Titus names four soldiers he believes are on the verge of accomplishing.
Hey, rim mind! It's time to find those undiscovered gems prepared to shine on the wood as we prepare for another thrilling NBA period. Four active guards are expected to make a comeback in your fantasy sports leagues this week.
These players have real breakout qualities and are stepping into more notable roles. This break it down.
Immanuel Quickley, PG/SG, Toronto Birds
The fifth-year watch suddenly has an opportunity to display his talent as a full-time start. When Quickley averaged 19 points, five rebounds, and seven assists for the Raptors last year, he provided a picture of what to anticipate for the upcoming season. The Raptors extended Quickley's company PG role through the 2028-2029 time because of his outstanding performance.
Per BetMGM, Quickley has the sixth-shortest odds ( + 2000 ) to win Most Improved Player, a strong signal that he's in for a big season. Following the mid-season business from the Knicks, Quickley's using moment ballooned from 23 to 33 minutes per game. For those concerned about Scottie Barnes eating into Quickley's usage, he only saw a 2 % decline with Barnes on the floor ( 24 % to 22 % ). Quickley is a dynamic fantasy player with value in most classes, with the exception of FG % and stones.
His ADP sits in the second large, but I'd move forcefully for him in the third round because I expect he'll end within the top 50 in both points and group leagues this season.
Cam Thomas, SG, Brooklyn Nets
Since joining the club a few years ago, Cam Thomas has been a radio bottle. He'll become the franchise's best choice and player for the resurrected Brooklyn Nets this season. Thomas saw a 30 % usage rate with Mikal Bridges present ( he's now gone ) and was one of nine players under 23 years old to average at least 20 ppg last season.
While Thomas is typecast as a chucker, this is the time we'll discover some progress in his playmaking skills. In 11 game in March last year, Thomas averaged 4.3 help per game. Thomas gives the feeling of Jordan Poole 2.0 from last year, but at least Thomas has built-in chemical and familiarity with the team, as he's been with Brooklyn since being drafted in 2021.
The Nets have a fresh coach, but given the lineup and dying objectives, this offense will flow by Thomas as both a scoring and mediator. He could end in the top 10 in scoring this year, and with a raise in assists, 3s and possibly steals, his seventh-round ADP looks good considering the job he's about to put in as the Nets ' focal point.
Jalen Suggs, PG/SG, Orlando Magic
While Markelle Fultz was rumored to be entering, the Orlando Magic chose to hand the keys to fourth-year protect Jalen Suggs. And why not? Suggs considerably improved in his second NBA season. He earned second-team All-Defense, and he increased his FG % from 42 % to 47 % and shot 39.7 % on 3s. He averaged just 27 minutes per game last season, but joining the starting product may find him over the 30-minute threshold to gross more fantasy production.
Suggs played all 75 games for the Magic last season and started every one of them. His value increased in fantasy with the chance to get more assists, along with Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, as well as his additional responsibility of now supporting Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner in the offense. More minutes equals more potential for setting new career marks in points, assists and steals per game. With an ADP in the ninth round, Suggs could be one of the biggest steals in fantasy basketball drafts this season.
Brandin Podziemski, SG, Golden State Warriors
Podziemski joins the starting lineup after the Warriors made the decision to leave former Hall of Famer Klay Thompson. When it became clear that the Warriors wanted to use Podz to score 8-10 3s per game, it had a lot of impact on how the Warriors intended to use him and how confident they were in his scoring ability. He shot close to 39 % from distance last year, so it tracks. He'll compete ( at times ) with Jonathan Kuminga as the second option to Stephen Curry, but that's a good thing for his fantasy value.
Podz was one of the best rebounding guards in the league as a rookie. His 11.7 % rebounding mark was higher than Paolo Banchero and LeBron James. Josh Giddey, Luka Dončić and Russell Westbrook are the only guards with a higher total rebounding percentage than Podziemski.
Now that we've covered the scoring outlook and rebounding upside let's get to his facilitation. He had 24 games with at least five assists last season, including a season-best 14 dimes off the bench across 34 minutes against the Grizzlies in February. Last season, he ran the second-unit offense at times, and seeing 30+ minutes of play should yield close to five assists per game.
Podz will wear many hats for the Dubs, including being one of their best on-ball defenders. The breakout potential is real after Podziemski joined the USA Select Team last offseason. His 11th-round ADP is mispriced, and fantasy managers should scoop him up as much as possible late in drafts.
