At Euro 2024, England captain Kane has performed poorly, and Wright has made hints about what Southgate needs to change.
Despite Harry Kane's battles at Euro 2024, England director Gareth Southgate has a choice to make. That's according to previous Three Tigers frontman Ian Wright.
Kane has struggled to impress in England's final four of Euro 2024 despite scoring two goals. The captain has started every match but does not seem his usual fierce home.
And as far as Wright is concerned, it ca n't go on for much longer which rather goes without saying as England have a maximum of two games left, beginning with Wednesday's huge semi-final showdown against the Netherlands in Dortmund.
Arsenal legend Wright, who has nine goals in 33 caps for England between 1991 and 1998, said on the Stick to Football podcast that "you ca n't help but look at Harry Kane and say something's wrong with him." He's not strong, he's not in the field – and then we know Ivan Toney can go to that degree and get a penalty]Toney scored in the quarter-final fight win over Switzerland on Saturday].
" We need someone who is going to be up it, linking and holding and causing problems for their supporters. At some stage, we're going to need to make that decision about what's going on – we ca n't just wait for that Harry Kane finish, at some stage, we might run out of time in that respect."
Wright is enthusiastic about England's odds against the Dutch, although he expects a strong evaluation from Ronald Koeman's area". Is Wright proper about Kane? It's hard to find anyone who believes England's record goalscorer performed also total at Euro 2024.
As DataVictory sees it, there is definitely a case to provide Toney into the fold from the start – not to remove Kane but to enable bring the best out of him. The Brentford man has made an impact in both of his final looks as substitutes so much, the first of which was against Slovakia, when Kane's wonderfully guided header up across the field assisted his extra-time success.
