Strangely, the former Uttoxeter champion swimmer has connections to Derby County and Nottingham Forest, East Midlands competitors.
Football teams enjoy reaching out to popular enthusiasts, but Adam Peaty's loyalty is still a mystery.
The Team GB diver, who won gold medals at the previous two Games, appears to have to choose between Nottingham Forest and Derby County. The only thing that separates the two East Midlands competitors is their shared admiration for their famed former manager Brian Clough, though that's about it.
Fans have frequently clashed at games between the two clubs in recent years, and the two leagues are furious competitors. While they're today in different teams, that anger still remains- though not for Adam Peaty, it seems.
In light of the rumors that he backs both of them, Peaty appears to have a chance to add another intriguing connection between them.
After winning the 100-meter swimming metal at the Rio 2016 Olympics with a world record time, he was regarded as a regular at Pride Park and had a tattoo of his own. He was given the freedom of the town in 2016 and was proud to have a Derby tattoo.
However, when Peaty tweeted in support of Forest following their equalizer against Cardiff City on April 21, 2018, there were questions. The Olympic tweeted:" This go @NFFC", in that game, visit the blog with the raised arms icon.
Let's go @NFFC &# 128588, &# 127996, April 21, 2018
There is a reason for people to wonder where his allegiances really lie, it's obvious. However, the issue is still unsettled as Peaty works to increase his amazing medal collection in Paris.
He picked up gold in the 100m swimming ultimate tuesday, narrowly losing out on top position to Italy's Nicolò Martinenghi.
Peaty may also take part in the female's and mingled 4x100m mix relay, which both start after this week.
