Southgate has led England to a semi-final, a last, a quarter-final and now another last in his time in charge of the Three Cats, but would dearly like to master a second main prize for the world's men in soccer since 1966.
Speaking ahead of the game, Southgate said:" I am not a believer in fables but I am a believer in dreams. You have to make those points happen, even though we had great dreams and understood the significance of that.
" The run we've had, the late goals and penalties, does n't equate to it being our moment. Wednesday, we must create it and show it.
" It would be a wonderful history and it's in our hands but the effectiveness is the most important thing".
England's best performance to date in Germany came on Wednesday with a 2-1 get over the Netherlands, which was the team's best performance so far. They faced many criticism from viewers and the media throughout the event and were on the cusp of a last-16 leave.
On Sunday's showpiece against Spain in Berlin, Southgate said:" I do n't have any fear about what might happen because I've been through everything.
" I want the people to think that courage. I want them to be able to be the best type of themselves because, whatever happens, we're but powerful as a group."
After Euro 2024, Southgate is rumored to be offered a new offer by the FA, but he is expected to leave after nearly eight years in charge.
