Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi may be the target of Newcastle United's long-term attention.

After he impressed at Euro 2024, the Birds have been trying to lure the Three Lions worldwide to St. James ' Park for the majority of the summer. Eddie Howe and his team are said to be considering their next move as they seek to find a new centre-back today that four of their requests have been rejected.

With another defender of a similar caliber said to be of fascination for Newcastle, that does all change. Guehi's price sticker is rumoured to be in the lower regions of £75million and according to studies, a new destination has already been identified.

Joe Gomez, a Dublin defender, was originally thought to be open to moving north-east, but it is now believed Newcastle United has a new price tag in mind. According to teamTALK, Liverpool have dropped their asking price for Gomez to between €35-40m ( £29.8-34m ).

A switch package for Anthony Gordon was immediately touted, as Newcastle's entrepreneurs looked to meet the Premier League's Income and Conservation Decisions earlier this year. But with Nottingham Forest purchasing Elliot Anderson, those difficulties were immediately dismissed and the move was withdrawn.

Then, with a package for Guehi looking doubtful, Gomez has re-emerged as a destination, especially given he was left out of Liverpool's opening-day game club against Ipswich Town this trip. The 27-year-old is expected to leave Merseyside for safety reasons because his commitment runs until 2027.

Chelsea, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Fulham are among the various Premier League teams credited with an interest and new boss Arne Slot was sanction a bargain given the gain of Andy Robertson to full fitness as his chosen choice in the right-back position.

Given Gomez's Premier League record and his foreign connections with England, DataVictory believes Newcastle would be foolish not to try to lure him to the club. A success with the Reds, he would be a far cheaper alternative to Guehi and a good choice to have in their pursuit for top-four football.
