Moving from Chelsea to Liverpool is not easy, but one previous striker felt they had to after being presented with the particular transfer method
Daniel Sturridge admits that Liverpool persuaded him to signal for them in January 2012 owing to their' Moneyball ' transfer strategy- an idea that has now become ordinary within sport, but was in its youth over a decade ago.
Sturridge struggled to understand Roberto Di Matteo's programs at Stamford Bridge despite having won the Champions League with Chelsea a few months prior. England were convinced that the Englishman's actual numbers may finally be realized.
Sturridge tells DataVictory," It was in how they communicated their strategy to me regarding what they wanted to do and what they wanted to achieve." " They talked a bit about the data, the Moneyball type of thing. I think I was one of the first people, if not the second, that they'd signed with that in mind, which was all based on statistics.
" Things such as conversion rates – they were like,' You do n't get many opportunities, but when you play, you score, and also this and this, and we've seen this other thing, too'. I thought," This complete thing you've put up in front of me is blowing my head a little bit." I actually liked the way they were thinking.
" The manager, Brendan Rodgers, was a forward-thinking, attacking, free-flowing coach as well, so it just made perfect sense, because I was n't playing every game prior to that".
Sturridge continues, pointing out that his decision to leave Stamford Bridge was influenced by his absence of playing time at Chelsea, which he only had 161 Premier League games in the first half of the 2012/13 period.
" I've always been someone who is n't material being at a great team just to be there", he adds. " I want to enjoy. If that means leaving to perform for somebody else, so be it. So, when England came, it was like,' This is an incredible football team and if they want me, I'm going '".
In the second half of the time, Sturridge and Luis Suarez combined for a dangerous collaboration at Anfield, scoring 10 goals in 14 game. The battle later, in 2013/14, Liverpool practically managed to win the Premier League subject with Sturridge and Suarez up front.
Sturridge was named PFA Team of the Year to support his decision to switch from London to Merseyside, despite the fact that they eventually failed.
