Following his exit from Euro 2024 on Tuesday, Kylian Mbappe made a shocking choice, which may reveal what he intends to do when he retires from playing professional football.
Mbappe is preparing for the future by putting his excellent new agreement, which he is still just 25, to good effect and has just signed for Real Madrid.
But while some people move into punditry, training and other jobs aside from football, it seems the Frenchman has a different schedule.
According to French store RMC Sport, Mbappe's home business, KM7, are looking to purchase Ligue 2 part Stade Malherbe Caen, a team the France captain trialled for in his early youth job. He finally decided on joining Monaco, but, with Caen having been relegated from the best level of French sport when it came for him to make his decision.
Ouest-France added more information, suggesting that conversations are at an advanced level between Mbappe's family, Fayza Lamari, and Caen's current owners, the British property management company Oaktree Capital Management. After only four years in charge, Oaktree plans to resign from Inter Milan.
Pierre-Antoine Capton, the majority shareholder, is anticipated to remain at Caen while the Mbappe home assumes control of the majority stakes.
SM Caen have seen some of Europe's best abilities pass through the team in recent times, with N'Golo Kante, William Gallas, Thomas Lemar and Raphael Guerreiro all turning out for them during their jobs.
Should Mbappe's package for the Division 2 edge go through, it's clear that the day-to-day working of the club does n't be his obligation- after all, he'll have to contend with playing at Real Madrid himself.
Instead, Capton and other people within KM7 are set to make decisions on the club, though the deal does suggest Mbappe's post-playing career could see him sat in the stands overseeing important club matters.
