Previous Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has ruled out whether to sign a rising young Greek star, but believes a more in-depth past Arsenal player would be more suitable.

The 56-year-old turned out for the north London pub from 1996 to 2001. In his day with the Premier League, he made 203 appearances, including two FA Cup victories and a UEFA Cup winner's glass.

Turkey were knocked out of Euro 2024 at the quarter-final level in a 2-1 damage to the Netherlands but received strong acclaim throughout the game for their fresh team's determined and ambitious style.

One of the younger Crescent Stars players has more than one fan panned out than the average, but Leboeuf believes an approach from his former team is unnecessary.

Leboeuf thinks Chelsea should target European legend Granit Xhaka over Arda Guler

Every major global competition tends to act as a system for a few rising young stars, and Euro 2024 has been no different. This day, it was the change of Turkey's Arda Guler to be thrust into the limelight.

The young Real Madrid sun needed just over an hour of sport to declare himself on the global level, curling a dramatic work into the bottom corner in his country's opener against Georgia. After four more images and two aids, nothing is said about where he might go next.

But, Leboeuf feels a move to Chelsea could be too soon for Guler. He said:" Arda Guler has been remarkable for Turkey but it's too early for Chelsea and signing him and putting him in a forest of young people is not the right thing to do".

The original Blues defender then identified a player he believed had the ideal skills and knowledge for Chelsea to target.

" I'm telling you the one who Chelsea should mark is Granit Xhaka", he said. " He's so amazing and I think Chelsea should have signed him when he left Arsenal.

He excelled for Switzerland at the Euros and won the Leverkusen Player of the Year award; he fits Chelsea but also, especially in midfield with Enzo and Caicedo.

He might be the couple's missing element.

Xhaka was originally with Premier League competitors Arsenal, before moving to recent European leaders Bayer Leverkusen next summer in a £21.4million offer.

He played a vital role in Xabi Alonso's side's unbeaten Bundesliga victory, lifting the DFB-Pokal before falling to the Europa League's last set.

Switzerland were another side to astonish some at this summer's Euro, getting to the quarter-finals before being edged out of the contest by England on penalties.

Leboeuf was speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest.
