As the debris settles on yet another European Championship last battle, Gareth Southgate and his England crew have resumed their home country odyssey.

For Southgate, whose agreement with the FA expires in December, he faces a choice of whether to stay or bend. His FA leaders are presumably keen on him staying in the work and leading the Three Cats to the 2026 World Cup in the USA, but when everything has calmed down, did he reveal this place?

His 102nd appearance in charge of England, fewer than Walter Winterbottom and Sir Alf Ramsey, and his history of two playoffs, a semi-final, and a quarter-final was more than any match up to any of his predecessors.

But after a summertime when his style of play was strongly criticised by the press and he even saw his own followers throw plastic cups his manner, could he be tempted to call time on his eight-year career?

With five weeks left on his commitment, a choice either method does not have to be made really yet as the 53-year-old has plenty of time for reflection, but should he determine to move on, it may look he has another career opportunity lined up.

The Mail statement that ITV are ready to give Southgate a role as a pundit and render him a' essential part of their coverage ' leading up to the second World Cup in 2026 and above.

England's following games are a Nations League double-header away to Ireland and at apartment to Finland in September, but the record adds it is doubtful he would be in place by therefore, if he chose to leave his England role and get up this offer.
