Germany's Joshua Kimmich has hit out at a "racist" study from fans ahead of the player's Euro 2024 campaign this summertime
Joshua Kimmich, a favorite in Germany, has criticized a recent study that revealed that one in five people want more light players on the national team.
In conjunction with a film called" United and Justice and Diversity: The National Team Between Racism and Identification," the survey was conducted on behalf of WDR.
Current and former German national team players discuss their experience with prejudice in the movie, which is out on June 5. The study's findings have caused controversy in Germany, with 21 % of the 1, 304 saying they would prefer to view more white people in the regional staff.
In a press conference on Saturday, Kimmich responded to questions about the findings and stated," This has n't been a team topic itself. Anyone who attended a football game is aware of the utter nonsense it is.
" Sports unites people of different skin colors and sects, and that's what it's all about. I do miss a lot of people if they were n't around. So that's totally prejudiced. Like a survey is totally counterproductive."
The survey's schedule, just before the German edition of Euro 2024, was also criticized by the Bayern Munich person. When the goal is to unite the entire nation [and we want ] to achieve great things together, he said," It is absurd to ask that question when you think we are facing a European Championship at home."
We are working together to put anyone in Germany in their place. A poll like this is definitely counterproductive".
In the study, 17 % of respondents said they were even disappointed that Ilkay Gundogan, who was born in Germany to Turkish families, was the captain.
Hansi Flick appointed Gundogan as the skipper in 2010 and he is expected to step down as skipper at Euro 2024.
