Chelsea appointed Enzo Maresca as Mauricio Pochettino's alternative this summertime
The Enzo Maresca time at Chelsea does begin in earnest when the Blues number Manchester City in their Premier League opening a year on Sunday, but the new head coach's prospect is already being questioned by one past Stamford Bridge star.
After leading Leicester City to the Championship name last year, Maresca was chosen to take Mauricio Pochettino's place in the bleachers earlier this summer.
The Blue have been busy as usual in the transfer market, including signings like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Marc Guiu, and Tosin Adarabioyo, but they also have had to deal with the aftermath of the racist controversy involving Enzo Fernandez, who were effectively defeated by Celtic and Manchester City on their pre-season excursion of the USA.
William Gallas, a former Blues defender, has acknowledged that he is concerned about Maresca's coming and the squad's prospects for the future strategy.
" Even though it's summer, I'm concerned about Chelsea and I'm concerned when I look at the squad", Gallas told Genting Casino. The squad however needs more quality than they can afford, despite all the money they've spent. They have a lot of players and still want more.
" May Enzo Maresca been sacked before Christmas? Something can occur in sports.
" I hope to see him stay until at least the end of the season and get that opportunity to show what he can do but it's always going to be the same problem, if he does n't have the right players and team to compete in the Premier League then it will be incredibly difficult for him".
The recent Todd Boehly regime has burned through three lasting managers in two years, which makes Maresca's lack of job security even more acute. Gallas believes this has an impact on the Premier League as a whole.
" Not just with Chelsea but all Premier League users, they have no patience again", he continues. Most people are n't thinking about the long term, though Arsenal may have done with Mikel Arteta and Manchester United may have done with Erik ten Hag.
" Managers today come in for six weeks or a month, I hope that Chelsea move away from that and stay with Maresca for the long term.
" His coming all depends on the manager's goal, and if they are satisfied with the top four or the best six, I believe they will only switch to a manager if they find themselves in 15th place at the beginning of the time." Then he'll stay".
