Following his first game in the Three Lions dugout, interim England manager Lee Carsley admitted he "would n't say I was a manager."

After Gareth Southgate resigned from his position following the Three Lions ' battle to Spain in the Euro 2024 last, the original Everton midfielder was given the top career in England on an interval basis.

Carsley led England to a 2-0 get over the Republic of Ireland in the Nations League on Saturday thanks to goals from Declan Rice and Jack Grealish to find his tenure- yet longer that may be- off to a productive start.

Carsley believes that the position is changing more than stifling his ambitions by downplaying his managerial skills.

" Looking back to when I first started the director would do everything, including organising go, swaps", the 50-year-old said. " Those times are definitely over," he said. Mentors now have the freedom to focus on their core competencies because of the amount of support that is now based on a head coach.

" I would n't say I was a manager, definitely not. I see myself as a brain coach. I have some real great support around me who help and take a lot of stress apart from me. That will give me the opportunity to play on the grass, play soccer, and maybe make a difference. ‌

" That's the way I have got to do it. I could n't see myself doing it any other way. I am actually happy with the people that are in demand and are my managers. They are aware of my strengths and wo n't ask me to be anything else.

" My power is instruction, being on the pitch. This ( talking ) is n't my strength, what I am doing now. It's something that I understand that comes with the job, as I saw on Friday. I approach it in my own manner.

Carsley's following test comes on Tuesday night, when England network Finland at Wembley Stadium. In the global break in October, matches against Greece and Finland are set for once more.
