Before Wednesday night's Three Lions semi-final against the Netherlands, Declan Rice has chosen the one England player that it has been a "privilege" to sing behind.
Having played in every single second of England's plan at the event, Rice has had 20 different team-mates on the pitch with him in Germany at different points. But while some have scored last-minute important goals, like Jude Bellingham, and some been imperious in army, like John Stones and Kyle Walker, it's actually another member of the squad that has impressed the Arsenal midfielder at Euro 2024.
When discussing the creation and installation of the team, Rice believes the move to a five-at-the-back has definitely been a good, while highlighting one important person.
" The establishment gives us stability, and evidently having Kobbie]Mainoo] second to me- I've been singing his compliments, he's been amazing", Rice said. " I'm happy to include Kobbie, he loves to keep the ball, wants to pass the puck- it's a pleasure playing with him".
Rice continued, acknowledging the fact that England have a wonderful opportunity to create background as they play in their next big event semi-final under Gareth Southgate.
" It's a huge option. It's certainly been a spiral of a trip this competition, but we're definitely relishing now", Rice said. " We completely deserve to be here, having overcome some winds in the last couple of weeks.
" The lads are in a really good location mentally and physically, and yesterday's a great night for English soccer."
He added:" When you drive into the stadium, you see all the peach tops and all the England jerseys- it makes you prepared. We'll look up on these days in 15 or 20 years, but we know we need to make the most of it because these are the times you cherish as sports players.
