The pre-season performance by Bayern Munich was impressive, but Vincent Kompany's expectations are unsustainable.
Bayern Munich won 14-1 in their first pre-season welcoming of the 2024/25 plan, dispatching ninth-division part FC Rottach-Egern in their ordinary device.
There should be causes for concern for fresh director Vincent Kompany, despite the fact that some leagues would applaud the outcome and proceed. A 14-1 win is a considerable reduction of goals from their 27-0 victory at the beginning of last pre-season, while they simply should n't concede against a side eight full tiers below them in the German football pyramid.
Bayern even beat Rottach-Ergen 20-2 in 2018, followed by a 23-0 win a year later. The symptoms are even more concerning when considering that when the team initially met in 2006, they played out the same 14-1 scoreline.
Travel the end of the 2006/07 time, Bayern were without a prize, having finished 4th in the Bundesliga, being knocked out of the DFB-Pokal in the second round and just managing to approach the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Should the same happen come the close of the 2024/25 plan, then it's good Kompany may be relieved of his duties.
So- are there teething issues for Kompany at Die Rotten?
Well, no. Bayern were without a number of primary team stars for the friendly match, with Harry Kane, Blake Musiala, Thomas Muller, Joshua Kimmich, Dayot Upamecano, Mathijs de Ligt, Leroy Sane, Manuel Neuer and many others all but to return to teaching following their Euro 2024 movements.
While Leon Goretzka, Eric Dier, Raphael Guerreiro and Josip Stanisic all started, young people like Adin Licina, Javier Fernandez and Gabriel Vidovic were all included, to. Kim Min-jae was the only recognized first-teamer on the bench, and Kompany made significant changes at half-time.
Bayern Munich today face a match against fourth-division part FC Duren in their next match on Saturday, before flying to South Korea to take on Tottenham Hotspur in Seoul. Strangely, they'll enjoy Spur again, seven days later back in London, before playing Ulm in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on August 16.
Kompany will be under a lot of pressure this year because Bayern wo n't have won a single trophy last year. Bayer Leverkusen were the league's striking team, with Stuttgart even finishing above Bayern in the Bundesliga.
