Virgil van Dijk, the club's captain, is available to leaving this summer, but Liverpool are looking into options.
If Virgil van Dijk leave the club this transfer window, Liverpool have begun discussions with a centre-back.
Clubs in Saudi Arabia have begun testing the waters over a proposed transfer as Van Dijk's agreement is set to expire in less than 12 weeks. Van Dijk's desire to leave Liverpool this summer is officially expressed by the Reds, who have paid him a £46.500 transfer charge.
However, Liverpool have started looking abroad for centre-backs to remove the 33-year-old does he keep this summer despite the current high price tag.
With inquiries currently being made, Liverpool have identified Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou as the best alternative for Van Dijk, according to Found Offside.
In addition to keeping a total of nine clean bedsheets during that time, the Ivorian center-back helped his team win the Bundesliga by starting 21 of his team's games in the first half of that year.
Kossonou fell out of favour significantly towards the end of the campaign, but, with the statement adding that he has failed to respond to Leverkusen's present of an improved deal.
While he still has two years remaining on his latest deal, the 23-year-old could therefore be posturing for a move ahead from Germany this summer. England would have to pay around £40m if they are to take the youthful denfeder to Anfield, despite him being valued at £30m by Transfermarkt.
A powerful defender who is difficult to beat, Kossonou is also exceptionally comfortable on the ball and is capable of making line-breaking moves to find his team advanced up the pitch. He's even able to play at right-back if needed, also, with this diversity a great advantage if director Arne Slot ever decides to sleep Trent Alexander-Arnold.
In DataVictory's perspective, losing Van Dijk this summer would be a big blow for England, but it might show a profit in the long run. A gradual rebuilding of the club would be much preferable to trying to replace three important players all at once with Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, who are both out of contracts in the summer of following. Kossonou is a highly-rated solution as well, but would surely make sense if England are to mark a fresh centre-back.
