Stephen Curry Re-Signs with the Warriors for $62.6 Million One-Year Extension

The Golden State Warriors have officially announced that they have reached an agreement with their franchise cornerstone, Stephen Curry, on a one-year contract extension worth $62.6 million.

This new deal will keep Curry with the Warriors through the end of the 2026-27 NBA season. If all goes according to plan, Curry will have spent 18 seasons with the Warriors by that time, solidifying his legacy as one of the most iconic players in franchise history.

Curry's impact on the Warriors is undeniable. He currently holds the franchise records for total points, playoff points, assists, steals, field goals made, playoff field goals made, three-pointers made, playoff three-pointers made, and total wins. His influence on the game and the Warriors' success has been monumental, leading them to multiple championships and redefining the way basketball is played.

With this new contract, Curry becomes just the third NBA player in history to surpass $500 million in career earnings, joining the ranks of LeBron James and Kevin Durant. The one-year extension is the maximum duration allowed under the league's "over-38 rule," which limits the contract length for players who will be 38 or older when the contract begins.

The Warriors are hopeful that Curry will continue to write his "one-team" legacy with the franchise. However, Curry has made it clear that while he cherishes the idea of staying with the Warriors for his entire career, his priority is always winning. He has openly stated that he would not want to stay with a team that becomes non-competitive just for the sake of loyalty.

In a July interview, when asked if he envisioned himself finishing his career with the Warriors like Kobe Bryant with the Lakers or Dirk Nowitzki with the Mavericks, Curry's response was candid: "It's tough, right? I've always said I want to finish my career with the Warriors, and at this stage, I think it's possible. You can still be competitive, but that doesn't mean you'll win championships or even games. Winning is always the main goal, but you have to be realistic as you get older. You have to make changes, reassess, and adapt to how the league evolves."

Curry continued, "Honestly, I take it step by step now. That's the only way to stay happy and enjoy being myself on the court. When the time comes to make a final decision, I’ll continue to consider what's best for myself and my career. I want to win. In other words, if you're just sticking around to stay with one team but it means turning into a bottom-dweller, that's something I can't accept. But I don't think that situation will happen."
