Real Madrid has officially announced the contract renewal of their veteran midfielder Luka Modrić for another year, extending his stay with the club until June 30, 2025.
Modrić joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2012 and has now completed 12 seasons with the club. During his tenure, he has helped Real Madrid secure 26 trophies, including 6 UEFA Champions League titles, 5 FIFA Club World Cups, 4 UEFA Super Cups, 4 La Liga titles, 2 Copa del Rey trophies, and 5 Spanish Super Cups.
Despite the arrival of Jude Bellingham last season, which saw the aging Modrić gradually become more of a substitute, the Croatian still managed to make 46 appearances across all competitions. Out of these, he came off the bench 17 times and was substituted early in 23 of his starts. Even with reduced playing time, Modrić contributed 2 goals and 8 assists.
With Toni Kroos having retired, Modrić remains the last of Real Madrid's legendary "Gala Midfield" trio still active with the team. This September, Modrić will celebrate his 39th birthday. As his contract is set to expire next year, fans are left wondering whether he will choose to retire at Real Madrid or continue his illustrious career elsewhere.
