In the early hours of June 29, Beijing time, Qatari club Al-Gharafa officially announced the signing of Spanish forward Joselu. The two-year contract includes an option for a one-year extension, which can be activated with mutual agreement.
Just yesterday, Espanyol announced that Real Madrid exercised their buyout option on Joselu for €1.5 million. Spanish media reports indicate that Real Madrid sold Joselu to Al-Gharafa for a similar price. Al-Gharafa has offered Joselu an annual salary of approximately €8 million, more than three times his salary at Real Madrid (€2.5 million).
The 34-year-old joined Real Madrid on loan from Espanyol last season, making 49 appearances, scoring 17 goals, and providing 3 assists, contributing to Real Madrid's La Liga and Champions League victories. Despite Real Madrid's initial plan to keep Joselu, the arrivals of Mbappe and Endrick led him to seek more playing time elsewhere, resulting in his decision to leave.
Al-Gharafa, a traditional powerhouse in the Qatari league with seven top-division titles, finished third last season, just five points behind champions Al Sadd. With Joselu's arrival, Al-Gharafa is set to be a strong contender for next season's league title.
