Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has been inducted into the Murray State University Hall of Fame, a recognition of his impressive college career. During his two seasons with the Murray State Racers, Morant averaged 12.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 6.3 assists as a freshman, before exploding to 24.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 10 assists per game in his sophomore year. He also set the school's record for most assists (532) and became the first NCAA player since the 1983-84 season to average 20+ points and 10+ assists in a season.
While Morant expressed his happiness about this honor, his focus is firmly on the upcoming NBA season. After an injury-shortened campaign where he played only nine games, averaging 25.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 8.1 assists, Morant is eager to prove he's ready to lead the Grizzlies again. The team finished with a 27-55 record, ranking 13th in the Western Conference, missing the playoffs.
According to WPSD reporter Logan Whaley, Morant stated in an interview that he feels about 75% recovered from his injuries, sending a message to other teams that this is enough to pose a significant threat. "If I had to put a number on it, I'd say I'm at 75%. I think that's scary enough for the teams ahead of me," Morant said.
The exact extent of Morant's recovery will only become clear once the new season begins and we see his performance on the court. Beyond the bold statements, Morant has much to prove both on and off the court. Over the past two seasons, off-court issues and injuries have sidelined him, causing him to miss valuable playing time.
