Shearer told Betfair," He deserves it, and it's remarkable for him to have Lee Carsley play for the Republic of Ireland," Shearer said.
" It's quite similar to what happened with Gareth Southgate, he was the Under-21 England director, had victory there and he was given an opportunity. It's then exactly the same for Lee.
" It's become a very, very happy time for him ]his second England game]."
This week's double marks the start of England's Nations League strategy, with games against Greece and Finland coming up in October.
