The original England star has urged a fellow talent to work harder to improve.
After being dropped from the England squad for Euro 2024, Paul Gascoigne has cautioned Jack Grealish that he "must thumb over" to make the most of his playing days.
Grealish joined Manchester City for £100 million in 2021, but he has n't had the same impact on Pep Guardiola's side as the impressively commanding role he played at his youth club.
That led Gareth Southgate to remove Grealish from this season's trip to Germany, preferring Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon, Jarrod Bowen and Eberechi Eze as his choices on the aircraft.
After being inadmissibly left out of Glenn Hoddle's 1998 World Cup squad, Grealish reportedly traveled to Dubai on vacation, something Gascoigne has no objection to. He is aware of what it's like to be unapologetically dropped back of a major event for England.
However, Gascoigne has nudged Grealish, 28, to ensure that his principal goal is to ensure that he makes the most of his final year of playing.
Gascoigne told Techopedia:" Obviously it's pre-season, I think he spent 50 grand on a night out in Dubai when he did n't make the England squad. Great on him. He's got that income.
" He's got value, but he needs to finger down. I was the same. When I had a few days out, I'd come and enjoy. You had a sip and that.
" Sometimes I wish I had n't, I regretted it, but I also managed to do. Fair enough, the manager wo n't try to hurt you if you can perform on a Saturday.
Grealish has appeared for England 36 times since 2020 after playing for the Republic of Ireland at children level, while Gascoigne has won 57 cap between 1988 and 1998.
