England's Euro 2024 semi-final match-winner Ollie Watkins has revealed that he had a pre-match sense that he and Cole Palmer had come off the bench to incorporate for a purpose.

The Three Tigers ' most recent late-game substitution came from Aston Villa striker Harry Kane alongside Cole Palmer, who took Phil Foden's place in 81 minutes and finished the match level at 1-1.

As they have in each of their knockout games in Germany, England fell behind, this day to a seventh-minute Xavi Simons squeaker, before Kane slotted house a questionable penalty with 18 minutes on the calendar.

With time ticking on and anxiety increasing after the split, Southgate's double change eventually proved to be the deciding factor, when the two replacements combined as the time ticked past the 90-minute mark. Watkins turned with one touch before Palmer's game was slipped into the far part.

Watkins revealed that he knew how things would turn out when England won 2-1 in the last game against Spain.

" I swear on my career, my children ' life, I said to Cole Palmer ' we're coming on now and you're going to set me up'', and that's why I was so delighted with Coley", the Aston Villa forward told ITV. " I knew as soon as he got the game he was going to play me. You've got to be selfish. Touch and complete. When I saw it go in the lower part, it was the best sense ever".

Watkins had made only one 20-minute film off the bench in the class level so far at the game but insisted that he was always willing to grasp any possible prospect,

" I know, unbelievable", he added. " I've been waiting for that moment for weeks, for weeks. It required a lot of dedication to get where I am right now. I'm happy that I had the chance to grab it with both hands, and I'm delighted. Delighted".

The 28-year-old also saluted his side's never-say-die attitude which has seen them progress to the final despite not holding a 90th-minute lead in any of their three knockout matches.

" We've got that kind of bounce-back factor", he continued. " Going a goal behind, but it seems to kick us into gear and we never give up and we've won on penalties, we've come from behind. One more game now".

The Three Lions travel to Berlin to face Spain in their third final game in English history, marking their third and first appearance there.
