Kawhi Leonard's decision to resign from the Olympics and concentrate on the upcoming NBA season does n't seem to be particularly surprising to anyone.
No single seems particularly surprised by Kawhi Leonard's decision to withdraw and concentrate on the future NBA time. Many people were initially surprised to see him join Team USA for the Summer Olympics.
The internet was just allowed to see but so much of the tournaments between the Olympic team and the Select Team, but Leonard was n't out there, which sparked a little bit of worry. The first workouts were probably a result of Leonard's decision to withdraw, according to Clippers front office officials, who were present.
" Kawhi has been ramping up for the Olympics over the past several months and had a couple powerful practices in Las Vegas. He felt ready to compete. He acknowledges that USA Basketball and the Clippers decided it was preferable to spend the remaining summertime focusing on his best interests rather than competing at the Paris Olympic Games, according to USA Basketball in a statement.
All of this is heightened as of Leonard's damage history, but the visuals were only a tiny sample. Ty Lue, a team assistant coach and Clippers mind coach, seemed to be heading points off by saying Leonard should get better playing design by playing on the team as opposed to just doing it in training camp.
Perhaps after Leonard sounded positive following practice on Tuesday and a potential exhibition match against Canada looming on Wednesday night in Las Vegas, Leonard decided that was just a diversion.
" Yeah, I think I may match up tomorrow", Leonard said Tuesday. " Everything has been good so far. It has maintained its neutrality, and we hope that will continue.
It turns out that Derrick White, a Boston Celtics watch, will take his place, making three Ancient players who played well into June of their NBA championship season. It appears to be Leonard's but another loss in his successful career as a Cutter in 2019.
He missed the 2021 playoffs after torn ACL in the second round, which the Clipper then used to advance to within two activities of the NBA Finals. He missed the entire 2021-22 time, and after gradual walking the 2022-23 time, he just played two matches in the Clippers ' first-round set against Phoenix.
And this past year he was unable to finish the first-round set against the Dallas Mavericks after playing 68 game — the most he's played since 2016-17, when he finished second in MVP election.
Adebayo addresses DPOY snub: ' It's not my problem I'm adaptable'
Miami's Bam Adebayo has been one of the most charming stars in the NBA, often accommodating, but even he can include legitimate moments of stress. He's made the All-Defensive Team every year since 2019-20, but has n't won the top award — finishing third this past year behind Rudy Gobert and rookie Victor Wembanyama.
After his press briefing with a smaller group of writers in Las Vegas on Sunday afternoon, he raised the possibility of competing against the European combo in the Olympics.
" I have to accomplish all this and regular 20, 10 and 5", he said to Yahoo Sports late, muttering down the hallway at Las Vegas ' Bellagio resort.
" That's one thing that irks me, it's not my fault I'm versatile", Adebayo said. " I've been top 5 in DPOY voting the last five years, there's been guys y'all ( media ) been giving it to over me".
Because the CBA stipulates specific awards you rise deal principles, had Adebayo won it one of these times, he would've been available for a greater commitment improvement than the three-year,$ 166 million deal he agreed to lately. If he'd waited and done a four-year deal, he would've netted over$ 100 million more.
But you get the experience it's less about the money and more the reputation.
" A point guard ( Marcus Smart ) got it over me, a center ( Rudy Gobert ) got it over me, a power forward ( Jaren Jackson Jr. ) has gotten it over me", Adebayo told Yahoo Sports. " The shafts move for me, in certain levels. It's me and a lot of undrafted boys and we still have a top-five defense".
" These other guys have All-NBA dudes (around them ). Some of it is, they do n't really care about us and that's fine. I think they should pay attention to continuity because being leading 5 DPOY, I think I have the longest run of All-Defensive clubs, so the shafts move for me".
Of those people, he's the only one with an unpleasant duty and is also a hotspot for act.
When it was brought up, U.S. Olympic associate coach Erik Spoelstra laughed.
" We're also talking about that? Good", the Miami Heat coach said fairly bitterly.
" It's all how you view it. There's a lot of variables that go into it. It's all about having a strong defense team. It involves developing exceptional defense skills, improving the defense of those around you, and developing exceptional combative skills. He checks all those containers".
" But the debate, we're earlier that now".
Sometimes he is, but Adebayo is also unnerved by it— and probably plans on taking it out on the French when the day comes.
