Temba Bavuma echoes SACA's have for women's rights in Afghanistan

SA captain said his own land, where race-based separation ended 30 years ago, you relate to those suffering from human-rights crimes

Temba Bavuma, the country's Test and ODI captain, has joined the South African Cricketers ' Association ( SACA ) in calling for an end to the gender-based discrimination that prevents women from playing sport and participating in other public activities.

In a statement released ahead of South Africa's scheduled trip to the UAE, where they will enjoy Afghanistan in three ODI matches next week, Bavuma stated that South Africans, whose personal legalized race-based separation system ended 30 years before, are in a unique place to connect to those who are suffering human-rights crimes. So, Bavuma reiterated the phone for women's freedom to be respected.

" I look at it in my individual power. It's certainly something that is quite strong within my own beliefs", he said. I concur with the notion of caring for and including people. We know that having a good chance in society is something that is important to our nation in South Africa. I fully support the attitudes that SACA's expressions convey.

SACA released a statement on Thursday that both acknowledged Cricket South Africa ( CSA )'s right to seek out matches like those that are being played in Afghanistan and also demanded that the country "use the leverage that this series has to highlight that these rights for Afghanistan's women players must be protected and respected.

Although the CSA continue to discuss the issue of children's cricket in Afghanistan through the ICC, it has not been decided whether there will be any plans to speak or gesture in support of Afghan people. Rob Walter, a white-ball coach, and Bavuma, who both stated on Monday that they had no say in whether or not to enjoy Afghanistan, have decided to leave the decision to play with CSA.

" I think I've got to respect the fact that there are people in positions who have that responsibility to speak more eloquently and explain a little bit more of it", Bavuma said. " In my own private capacity, I surely support the position and the views expressed by SACA. And I may know where Rob while also is coming from in that we are selected to do a career in the football field. And I believe that at least a lot of our power will be devoted to that.

Thus far, the single table that has constantly pulled out of opposition against Afghanistan is Australia, while the ECB has also indicated it will not plan set against Afghanistan. At ICC games, both Australia and England continue to play Afghanistan. In ODIs or T20Is, South Africa has always played against Afghanistan outside of a World Cup.

The South Africa team and CSA have also had to acquire the morality of playing against Afghanistan, who have not had a children's team since becoming Full Members in 2017, despite having signed 25 people people in 2020, since this is their first bilateral line. All hope of a women's team have waned since therefore, with the Taliban taking control, among other things.

Apart from South Africa's shared history of legalised discrimination with Afghanistan, the country also has an epidemic of gender-based violence ( GBV ). South Africa and Brazil were ranked as the two most dangerous for women this year by the World Population Review. In reply, there have been several efforts against GBV, including in cricket. The federal women's team has an annual dark time, where they swap their common green-and-gold system for dark clothes, to raise consciousness about the situation of GBV.

Two weeks ago, national rugby captain, Siya Kolisi, had this to say after the Springboks beat the All Blacks in Johannesburg:" It's 30 years of freedom, I want to say congratulations to South Africans. But we still know there are many people who are still not free. Hopefully, the next celebration we celebrate is the women who are free of gender-based violence".
