After being named Sydney Thunder's captain for the future WBBL time, Phoebe Litchfield's career will continue to advance quickly.
At 21, Litchfield may be youngest full-time captain in WBBL story. She did not play the earlier stages of this year's contest due to a journey of South Africa, but she has been appointed away of England captain Heather Knight, who led the team last year.
" It's a great honour to remain named captain of Sydney Thunder", Litchfield said. " I've grown up playing for this membership and learning from some amazing rulers, but to then have the opportunity to lead for a talented group of people is really interesting.
I'm really looking forward to taking over the captain's seat this year because we have a wonderful combination of experience and young fresh talent.
Litchfield made her Thunder debut at the age of 16 and has now scored 1212 plays in 67 games on regular for 24.24. Last year saw a significant increase in her strike-rate as she made 309 works at 130.37.
" Phoebe becoming captain of Thunder really feels best," Thunder general manager Trent Copeland said". She's young, but her expertise in the game makes this a healthy growth. Phoebe has always been older beyond her years, and her authority features have been visible from the moment she joined Thunder.
" We've seen Phoebe thrive under stress, whether it's for Australia in the World Cup or in crucial moments for Thunder. She's a wonderful chief, both by figure and by case, and we are excited to see her step into this position".
Alongside Knight, Litchfield will be able to call on the experience of Chamari Athapaththu, Hannah Darlington ( who led Thunder as a stand-in captain aged 19 ), Shabnim Ismail and Sammy-Jo Johnson alongside coach Lisa Keightley.
On October 28, Thunder did play host to Hobart Hurricanes, who reached the Eliminator last last year and lost to Brisbane Heat.
