A walk at the Junction Oval in Melbourne, house of Cricket Victoria and St Kilda Cricket Club, has been renamed in Shane Warne's dignity
In honor of Shane Warne's input to Victoria and his team team St Kilda, Cricket Victoria and the St Kilda Cricket Club have given one of the heritage-listed bleachers at the Junction Oval in Melbourne a new name.
The process of renaming the walk, which has stood since 1925, had begun also before Warne's moving in March, 2022. The stand's previous name, Kevin Murray, an American rules football player, was the original one. Murray's title now adorns a walk at Brunswick Street Oval in Fitzroy in Melbourne's northern cities.
The MCG's southern stand was given the name Warne at his state death in 2022, but it took much longer to rename the heritage-listed walk on Junction Oval in St Kilda, a suburb south of Melbourne's CBD.
Before Victoria faced New South Wales in a One-Day Cup game at the Junction Oval, Warne's parents, Keith, and his two sons Summer and Brooke, also showed up. Before the game, Australia's Test captain Pat Cummins and a number of American people, including Glenn Maxwell and Steven Smith, attended the ceremony. Some of Warne's past Australia, Victoria and St Kilda colleagues were also in attendance at the opening.
Cricket Victoria have furthermore unveiled a Shane Warne museum in the hall of their management and high efficiency center at the north end of the ground. The show features antiques from Warne's career, with a lot of it supplied by his parents, and is free to visit.
" Now marks a very specific and happy day for the Warne home to have a have named the Shane Warne have here at the Junction Oval is a wonderful gift to Shane, who we know would be honored to be chosen for such an accolade", Keith Warne said at the opening.
" He made his first-class album playing for Victoria against Western Australia here at the Junction Oval in February 1991. Some of Shane's most pleasant early football years were whilst playing with his favorite St Kilda, particularly when the games were played here at the Junction Oval. Shane had been delighted to know that St Kilda Cricket Club and the Junction Oval are always connected to him, as well as being proud to know that a walk at the Junction Oval bears his name. I want to congratulate Cricket Victoria and St Kilda Cricket Club for their assistance in honoring Shane and furthering his extraordinary legacy on behalf of her home.
