Without a ball bowled, the Greater Noida Test against New Zealand was abandoned, according to Trott, who hoped it would be a" good learning case."

Drain of the floor. Watch the weather before a match. Taking care of a moist outside. People ' protection on the area after heavy rainfall.

These are some of the fundamental checks that are performed at locations before foreign games, not just before Test matches, and are now considered to be commonplace. Jonathan Trott, head coach of Afghanistan, anticipates a" good teaching event" from the one-time Check against New Zealand, which was abandoned in Greater Noida.

The fact that the entire game was n't washed out during the opening two days of play, with no rain falling during the opening two, and no action taking place either way due to a very wet outfield that had put players ' safety in jeopardy, may have irritated the players on both sides.

" We're disappointed. We'd geared ourselves off, and we'd trained actually well", Trott said in certain about the first two weeks. " But actually disappointed. The thing was we got to train on the square]on ] the days before, so we got to see the pitch. The people were starting to get there, their hunger for the sport was growing yet more. But heartbreaking not to be able to enjoy.

" What I hope it is, it's simply a great learning event that things can produce up... all has got to be checked out and made certain that it's available for Test-match cricket. And I believe that occasionally we overlook the things that have already been done for other countries or venues, such as ground workers or drainage.

" I think the earth workers have worked, naturally, very rough here. It really however has n't materialised, and we've had a strange amount of rain for this time of year because that's what I'm being told by the visitors. They're probably not better than me".

In contrast to the first two times, the third and fourth days saw first showers and immediately rains, which caused both days to be called off even before the planned launch of play at 9:30am local time. The destiny of the second day was largely known on the third morning because the first two weeks ' rain made the outfield playable even in the sun on the first two weeks ' rain worsened the ground situation so much that it was also known on the fourth day.

Trott said that despite being able to enjoy intra-squad warm-up matches after arriving in Greater Noida, which is an adopted home ground for them, and getting used to the conditions also before New Zealand's appearance, seeing the first two days without perform was not perfect as his players would have learnt a lot from this practice.

The true saddest part is that I believe the pitch was going to be excellent and that the competition would have been a good one, which is disappointing. " So that's the most disheartening thing, I suppose, for all of us. Whether we won or lost, I believe we may have gained. I think the people would have learnt a devil of a bit in this style of the game, which is the problem going forward in red-ball cricket for Afghanistan. But it's the situation as effectively. The players would have been very pleased to have played against New Zealand in a traditional manner.

Questions are being raised about the quality of the ground preparation, particularly in the field, which were highlighted by the removal of a similar piece of the nets in the midwicket place, perhaps as Trott lamented the absence of any perform at all.

" I think it's a case of time of year", he said. The amount of water that has fallen during this time of year or the past three days is unprecedented, and it's always difficult to play a Test match at this time of year. However, playing some cricket would have been nice.

" The white-ball side of the game has evolved over the past two years. So I'd like to see that progression, and that desire and hunger for it to grow in the same manner"

Jonathan Trott on Afghanistan's progress

In the following twelve months, Afghanistan will face Zimbabwe ( two series ) and Ireland in their final three Test matches, which will be played against a much higher-ranked side. Trott also wants to see the Afghanistan Test side develop "in the same way" as they have done in recent years, including their first semi-final appearance at the T20 World Cup in June this year. Their immediate focus will now shift to the ODI series against South Africa later this month.

" For me, it's a case of making sure that the players are looked after, ]and ] that the players are able to flourish and grow as a side in this format of the game", he said. " The white-ball side of the game has evolved over the past two years. So I'd like to see that progression, and that desire and hunger for it to grow in the same manner.

" And I want to see Afghanistan have the same sort of passion and desire in the red-ball]format ] as much as it is in the white-ball formats. So I think it's attainable. But like anything, it's going to take time, and it's going to take a lot of effort. It's going to take a lot of communication between the management, and the players and coaches.

" I believe that you must begin at the grassroots before you can see the benefits of that. I do n't think enough red-ball cricket is played. But again, it's very new to the format. I think facility-wise, it maybe is the issue. I think there certainly is n't a lack of players. People are desperate to play cricket, and so the passion is there. It's about now being able to match the passion with the ability to allow the players to enhance and get better at this format of the game. But I think it's maybe an issue worldwide with regards to red ball- the lure of white-ball cricket, and the glitz and the glamour".
