Visitors brand three-seamer line-up in anticipation of rainfall conditions in Manchester
Dhananjaya de Silva, Sri Lanka's captain, has revealed that his team wanted to play more than one warm-up match before their Examine series against England but were denied the chance to do so.
Sri Lanka lost by seven innings in their four-day, first-class match against an untrained England Lions team at New Road next year. They were bowled out for 139 on the starting time but grew into the match, with Nishan Madushka, Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya all scoring second-innings half-centuries.
Eight of the area that will confront England at Emirates Old Trafford in Wednesday's second Test were involved, with Kamindu Mendis, Vishwa Fernando and Asitha Fernando due to come into the area. Milan Rathnayake, the 28-year-old bowler, will make his Examine album at the age of 28 after taking a innings in each innings against the Lions.
" The situations are very different to Eastern places", Dhananjaya said. " We wanted to enjoy a few games, but that's what we get. We did n't go with the full-strength]team]. We've also given a few people a chance. The result did n't go our way, but we had the preparation, I think. It'll operate in this match".
Dhananjaya said he had" no plan" why Sri Lanka's need for a minute warm-up match had been overlooked, but suggested that the plan was tight ahead of their first Examine collection of more than two game since 2018. " I have no idea about it", he said. " Sometimes because we are playing a three-match collection after a long time, maybe that's the cause".
Sri Lanka have never played a Test since April but travel into this line after beating India 2-0 in an ODI line, and had a 100 % record in Dhananjaya's three games as captain. " Our emotional state is good", he said. " Yes, we lost the practice match, but that match is there for our coaching. Within that, we got the preparing we wanted".
He anticipates that Prabath Jayasuriya, who he described as a "world-class spin," may play a major role in the Test match. " From the looks of it, it'll become a rain-affected match", Dhananjaya said. " I thought because of that, it's best to come with three bowlers, because we will go in and out of the match".
Dhananjaya made his Test album right after Sri Lanka's most new appearance in England in 2016, but throughout the series, he will draw on Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, and Dimuth Karunaratne's knowledge. " It's been long since we played here the last time", he said," but there are a few experienced players … They are sharing the experience with me".
