In Bangladesh, a competition was scheduled for October, but protests against the government led to the change of location.
One of the two alternatives being considered for hosting this year's Women's T20 World Cup is Zimbabwe. The game, which is due to begin on October 3 and was scheduled for Bangladesh, is likely to be moved after anti-government uprisings prompted safety concerns. The UAE is the other spot being considered, after India ruled themselves out on Thursday. The ICC committee is expected to make a choice on Tuesday, August 20 according to what it is understood.
Zimbabwe's attention, confirmed to ESPNcricinfo, comes on the rear of objectives to market themselves as a place for great cricket after successfully hosting the final two ODI World Cup Qualifiers ( in 2018 and 2023 ). South Africa, Kenya, and the nation next hosted a World Cup in 2003.
Since therefore, Zimbabwe spent several years isolated from big events, which included the Robert Mugabe government cutting itself off from much of the world, inflation, a self-imposed Test break between 2005 and 2011, and the men's team failing to qualify for two successive ODI World Cups and two of the last three T20 World Cups. The children's team has not competed at a World Cup ( neither have the UAE's ) and will not function at this year's event both, but Zimbabwe are keen to remain neutral guests of the game.
Zimbabwe did co-host the people's Under-19 World Cup with Namibia in 2026 and the ODI World Cup with South Africa and Namibia in 2027. Zimbabwe Cricket and local government officials will collaborate to construct multi-purpose infrastructure in Victoria Falls and Mutare until those two worldwide basis are completed.
For now, Zimbabwe can offer Harare Sports Club ( which also has newly installed floodlights ) and Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo as venues for the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup. These grounds even hosted all the televised games in the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers, with streaming activities held at Takashinga Sports Club and Bulawayo Athletic Club.
Zimbabwe's mild summers and low rainfall are expected to be its selling point, according to experts. India rejected the offer to network because the land may be experiencing the last of the rain. Sri Lanka is also understood to had fallen out of contention for weather-related factors.
Crucially, Zimbabwe will be able to make very good audiences, including school kids at venues, where the utmost power is 10, 000. The lack of fans in stadiums that can accommodate more than 20 000 persons is a problem with the UAE as a location. Zimbabwe are even hopeful that the relatively lower cost of hosting a game in their region compared to the UAE will give them an advantage when the final decision is made.
