Trott has had his contract renewed in January to work through the close of 2024. He is now Afghanistan's head coach, a position he has held since 2022.
Graham Ford, who resigned from his position last fortnight, has been named as the new head coach of Pretoria Capitals in the SA20.
Trott's contract was renewed in January so that it would continue until the end of 2024. He is presently the head coach of Afghanistan. At this stage, there is confusion as to whether the 43-year-old will remain. There is no real conflict between his global agreements and the SA20, which takes place in January 2025. Trott's agreement, which is scheduled to disappear in December, is not yet being confirmed.
The Capital are amid a broader shake-up after Ricky Ponting was let go ending his seven-year partnership with the Delhi company. Following a hard next season in which they only won three games and finished second, Pretoria made the decision to leave Ford. They were losing winners in the game's initial release in 2023 after topping the board.
Trott's period at Afghanistan has been a achievement, with a major development in the team's results at world events. Despite their expertise in the shorter platforms, they had won only one match in an ICC competition- both 50-over and T20- before beating Australia, England, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Bangladesh in the last nine times across the 2023 ODI and 2024 T20I World Cups. They made it through to the semi-finals of the latter, losing to South Africa.
Trott may also be in thought for England's limited-overs work but is thought to be an outdoor gamble with a decision to be made in the coming weeks on the future of former head coach Matthew Mott. Trott earned 127 cap for England, and has recently coached on the road, both for the Under-19 and Lions groups.
