As the England star prepares for his 188th and last Test cap at Lord's this week, Andrew Strauss has demanded that James Anderson be knighted.

As Test india's most successful speed bowling with 700 job dismissals at 26.52, and England's most capped bowler," Sir Jimmy" seems a foregone conclusion.

Strauss is one of a number within English cricket to be recently awarded knighthoods, having received the honour in 2019 from Queen Elizabeth II for his services to charity, sport and cricket ( his longtime opening partner Alastair Cook is also a Sir ). Having captained Anderson for 42 Testing, and even worked above the 41-year-old as the ECB's director of people's cricket, Strauss has had a field seats to Anderson's talent. He may even talk to his durability, having retired from Test cricket 12 years previously, despite making his debut a month after Anderson in 2004.

When asked if Anderson was capable of being knighted also, Strauss was unambiguous:" Very much so! I think any rapid spinner that plays 188 Test games deserves a knight, I'll put it that way".

Strauss had originally tried and failed to garden Anderson and Stuart Broad, who retired at the end of last summer. Off the back of a fatal 2021-22 Ashes plan, Strauss, in his guise as time director of cricket following the departure of Ashley Giles, dropped the couple for a tour of the West Indies.

Their presence was short-lived as Ben Stokes restored Anderson and Broad for the home summertime with his first act as Test captain. Two decades on, Stokes, with the assistance of Brendon McCullum and Rob Key, have suddenly pulled the cord on Anderson.

" Jimmy's still bowling well, as we saw from his performances at Lancashire]for whom he took 7 for 35 last week] but there's a ticking clock there for the next Ashes, is n't there"? Strauss said. " I think 18 game until the next Ashes. And you'll have to balance the demands of the present with those of the prospect. So I can know why they've chosen this as the appropriate time to do that.

One thing we know for sure is that the quality and variety of your ball harm determines whether you win in Australia, or get any analyze match or line. And thus, to me, the second Ashes is too far apart for Jimmy.

" People have written him off several times, including perhaps myself, but that does think too far down the road. And so at some stage you have got to begin planning for that.

" I think it's a great thing that he has the prospect around this week to feel the love, I suppose, and to get the respect he deserves from the sport public for those 21 years. It's going to be a really personal and dramatic Test match and, of course, the shoes that need to be filled are enormous. But I get the justification for this.

Strauss may be manifest for Anderson's goodnight with Lord's set to turn dark on day two to help the Ruth Strauss Foundation's# RedForRuth plan.

The initiative's fifth time will focus on raising money and raising awareness for the charity founded in honor of late wife Strauss, which assists families who have lost a parent to cancer, and encourages further collaboration and study into non-smoking lung cancers.

" Most of what I've done in my occupation, achievement-wise, has been about me but this is n't," Strauss said". We have a need to complete, and I'm delighted to be able to fulfill Ruth's wishes in some way. But our job is only just beginning, actually.

Without this" Red for Ruth" Test match," We would fight to do what we do, and we are very appreciative of the support we have received from the ECB, Lord's, and the cricket industry."
