After losing the ODI World Cup final, Dravid claims that he had no intention of continuing as India's head coach. However, a visit from his commander changed his mind.

After his first two-year tenure ended at the conclusion of last year's ODI World Cup, where the team finished runners-up to Australia, Rahul Dravid was appointed as India's head manager. Then came a phone from Rohit Sharma, and everything changed.

" Ro, thank you very much for making that call to me in November and asking]me ] to continue", Dravid, whose tenure ended after India's T20 World Cup 2024 title win, said in a video posted by the BCCI.

" I think working with each and every one of you has been a luxury and pleasure, Ro, and thank you for your time. There is a lot of time we have to talk, we have to explore, we have to believe, we have to believe at times, but congratulate you but very much".

As coach, aside from winning the T20 World Cup, Dravid was in command when India got to the World Test Championship final in June 2023 and the ODI World Cup final in November 2023.

In his moment of glory as coach, Dravid said he did n't believe in "redemption stories". That was in reaction to a question about whether it was specially gratifying to win the World Cup on the same soil where India, along with their captain, was dumped out of the first round of the 2007 ODI World Cup.

" I'm not often little of words but on a day like today, for me to be part of this, I could not be more grateful", Dravid said. " For the admiration, for the compassion, for the work that each and everyone of you have shown to me, to my coaching staff, to my support team.

" All of you may consider these times. We often say, it is not about the operates, it is not about the innings, you not remember your profession but you remember moments like this, but let's truly enjoy."

Virat Kohli and Rohit led the way as the whole team hoisted Dravid during the celebrations for the win. Dravid and the candidates were responsible for bringing back the two older people to the T20I area earlier this year despite them having no featured in the file for a long time.

As they celebrated up, Dravid had a little message for Kohli:" All three white ticked off. One dark to come. Tick it. " The reference being to India's wins in the ODI World Cup in 2011, the Champions Trophy in 2013 and now the T20 World Cup, all of which Kohli was a part of, and the Test championship, which India have n't won yet despite reaching the final on both occasions so far.

Dravid's son is expected to be named immediately. The second-string team that will begin a five T20Is in Zimbabwe starting on July 6 is being led by VVS Laxman, and BCCI director Jay Shah has stated that the next coach may be chosen ahead of the late-july white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. Gautam Gambhir is the frontrunner to been named head coach.

Dravid had cited the busy schedule as a major factor in no reapplying for the position last month before the T20 World Cup started. Unfortunately, just the kind of schedules]that are in place in international cricket ] and where I find myself in this stage in my life, I do n't think I'll be able to reapply, "he had said upon India's arrival in New York.
