County and township compete for the title in Chelmsford for the fastest bowler.
Eathan Bosch, a fast-bowling all-rounder from South Africa, has been signed by Essex for a short-term offer that covers four Vitality County Championship games.
Bosch, 26, has claimed 92 wickets in 38 initial- course matches since making his debut for KwaZulu- Durban in 2017, and heads for Chelmsford with the club when suddenly challenging for the County Championship title. At the middle point of the competition, they are now two points behind leaders Surrey, and they will face Durham at Chelmsford on Sunday.
" I'm very excited to be here", said Bosch. " It was a very simple offer to take, and I'm looking forward to my day with the Eagles. It would be fun to test my abilities in other countries and to see what they can offer.
" It will certainly be a learning experience, but I'm looking forward to experiencing a bit more of the nation, and particularly Chelmsford"!
Essex Head Coach, Anthony McGrath, added:" Eathan is a great addition for us, and we're delighted to welcome him to the team.
" There's huge benefit in a properly- loaded seam bowling cupboard, and with his experience of bowling in various conditions, he may put a new dimension to our attack.
As the Championship period nears its conclusion, he will be able to inspire people around him to new levels.
Bosch also has burgeoning pitcher skills, recording 1,053 first-class works at 22.89 while making a decade and seven fifties in the process. He represented South Africa at Under-19 level in two Tests and two OD Is, and he also appeared for Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 in 2023 and 2024.
His appearance at Chelmsford comes after other batsman Ben Allison was loaned to Worcestershire for two Championship fixtures, a duplicate of the quick- name move he made at the end of the 2023 season.
" This is an excellent option for Ben to find activity period while not compromising on the quality of cricket he did play", McGrath said. " He is also developing as a batsman, and the most important thing for him now is just to be playing, as such, this is a great opportunity for him, and we're looking forward to seeing how he gets on".
