June 4, 2024. 21:30. Bucharest. Stadium “Steaua”.
On Tuesday, June 4, Romania will play a friendly match against Bulgaria as part of their preparation for Euro 2024. The match will be held in Bucharest Romania is Ukraine’s first opponent in the Euros, so special attention is paid to their matches.
Romania
Under the coaching of Eduard Jordanescu, Romania had a superb qualifying campaign, not losing any of their ten matches. While some may say they had luck with opponents, Switzerland and Israel are not easy teams to beat. Romania’s last major achievement was reaching the quarter-finals of Euro 2000. They are aiming to at least secure the second spot in the group this year.
After the Euro 2024 qualifying tournament, Romania played two friendly matches in March, drawing with Northern Ireland (1:1) and losing to Colombia (2:3). Romania’s last encounter with Bulgaria ended in a goalless draw in 2015. Bulgaria is considered a tough opponent for Romania, having not beaten them since 1989.
Bulgaria
Managed by 55-year-old Iliyan Iliev since November 1, 2023, Bulgaria failed to qualify for Euro 2024 after finishing last in their group in the qualifiers. Under Iliev, Bulgaria has gone undefeated in the last four matches. They will face Slovenia in another friendly match on June 8.
Author’s prediction for Romania – Bulgaria: The match is unlikely to see a lot of goals as both teams will be more focused on preparations for upcoming tournaments. A draw or a minimal win for the home team is expected.
