With no document pull in 2025, the Hawks have no choice but to get today. And that's a good thing for Trae Young, Jalen Johnson and 2024 No. 1 review get Zaccharie Risacher, who scored 33 points Wednesday evening.
The NBA Draft Lottery on May 12 gave the Atlanta Hawks a chance to alter their course.
Due to a June 2022 business that sent Dejounte Murray from San Antonio to the Hawks for a number of takes, including Atlanta's 2025 first-round variety, the Hawks knew this would be the last time it could have control over its potential.
The Hawks ' leading overall pick in 2024 was the result of a pingpong ball landing earlier this spring, which both represented a start and a momentary bidee by them to choose their own life.
Only time will tell whether Zaccharie Risacher was the wise decision. Granted, the 2024 draft group was never that highly regarded, but if Risacher tops out as a 10-year movement player that might actually be just fine.
But the certainty of the document meant anything else. Something possible freeing and interesting.
Despite knowing how to handle its 2025 collection, the Hawks had no choice but to enter the 2024-25 season despite Cooper Flagg and Ace Bailey's impressive potential. The Hawks had complete freedom to concentrate on winning. Now that the team is chasing better offseason lottery odds, the front office wo n't make panicked deadline deals that will worsen the team.
Otherwise, the Hawks you focus on their goals, which are to create a strong run for the playoffs and a possible profit to the Eastern Conference finals in 2021.
The streamlined thinking between back office, coaching team and people might also be what the doctor ordered for the connection between the business and All-Star Trae Young. While there's never been any true enmity between the two factions, Young has found his brand in trade rumours for about three months. However you slice it, that's certainly a way to strengthen the bond between player and company.
Both parties should be able to determine whether or not they want the collaboration to last a whole season to place the noise aside and concentrate on the games themselves. So far, nothing indicates that wo n't be the case.
Aiding that marriage is the creation of Jalen Johnson.
Is Fresh capable of being the best player on a rivalling team? Atlanta's decision to play a heliocentric style of ball, with Young as the beneficiary, has n't proven particularly effective.
The overriding concerns about Young may be diminished as Johnson transitions from starting to sun, at least so far, as he becomes the organization's need for a co-star.

Johnson, a 6-foot-9 ball-handling, do-it-all forward, is now averaging 18.9 items, 10.6 touchdowns and 5.3 help per game. Hope his scoring output to decrease as the year progresses because his percent are all the way down from last year.
The skill of Johnson to both handle the ball and set displays is what separates him from Young's next great male co-star, John Collins. Collins was usually a top-notch play-finisher with wealthy scoring ability, but he was unable to accomplish many on his own, and the offense may frequently lose if the ball traveled in his hands too far from the rim.
With Johnson, Young and his friends can then concentrate on regular design. When the Duke product arrives with the game in his arms and a running time, neither the unpleasant stream nor the play stop.
The Hawks added a huge forward to the starting lineup with the addition of the 6-10 Risacher, which has helped to make up for some of Young's defensive defense defense. But more important, it's given Fresh another big target.
On Wednesday, Risacher exploded for a career-high 33 positions and seven innings in a nearby get against the New York Knicks. Johnson added 23 items, 15 rebounds and seven help.
That type of win, which included Young and Dyson Daniels combining to shoot 10-of-37 from the field and Bogdan Bogdanović sidelined, simply would n't have been achievable last season, especially against a quality opponent.
If the Hawks can suddenly win games in which Young does n't need to be the center of attention, that changes their future, and drastically so.
This is n't to say the Hawks are assuredly going to return to Eastern Conference prominence. This does not imply that their current year's campaign will even have a solid end. Their constantly updated injury report is n't doing them any favors because many moving parts are still unfinished.
But despite it all, they're doing something unique. They're changing their meal.
Certainly, a lot needs to get done before the Hawks are genuine challengers. And maybe they make the case that turning away from Young is finally the best course of action.
Before they give this team a real chance, though, that wo n't happen. And for that opportunity to be taken seriously, people have to get in. Thus far, they have. Young seems about relieved that his unpleasant problem has been lessened, just as Johnson seems about eager to take on a larger role.
If that active endures, the Hawks may lay the foundation for a very exciting future.
