Over the weekend, Mike Richards was shocked by what he saw in the Premier League.
Micah Richards was left fuming over a questionable refereeing choice in the Premier League over the weekend, suggesting it's "one of the worst I've ever seen".
While his previous edges Manchester City and Aston Villa guaranteed victories on Saturday against West Ham and Leicester, both, the sport involving the team Richards supported in his youth actually angered him most.
Arsenal and Brighton and Hove Albion played out a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium in Saturday's midday kick-off, with Joao Pedro postponing out Kai Havertz's first-half opening. Declan Rice received a dark card early in the second half, though, after Chris Kavanagh brandished the England midfielder with his second yellow cards.
Having been booked for a bad earlier on in the sport, Rice finally received his marching directions when he kicked the ball away from Joel Veltman, who was attempting to take a free-kick.
Rice's sending off has evidently angered Richards, though, who was left seething with Kavanagh's choice.
" Honestly, I think that was one of the worst choices I've ever seen", Richards claimed on The Rest is Football audio. " I'm not being biased around. I'm being completely neutral to anything. He kicks the ball ahead. But in my mind, I think that's probably time wasting. That's the first place. The next point is Veltman. I've played in that place a lot of the time- he's going to say that he's trying to play a fast free-kick.
" That's bullshit: if you're going to enjoy a fast free-kick, you do not throw the ball five feet in front of you. You pass the ball or whatever you want with your finger on first. You also wait for your team to get set before taking a quick free kick it. Finally he throws the ball. He appears to be going to blow it. Find the game's opposing viewpoint. There's nobody in the area where he's about to blow it anyhow.
" The game comes to Declan Rice. Then, I could see why Declan Rice veered away from the ball and kicked it aside. He's running up, he sees the game, and he just gives it a small touch, that's just a normal reaction. Therefore, the opposing argument is that you should n't kick or touch the ball. But I do n't even think he kicked it away. I simply believe it was like when you tried to stop or push a game that was coming your way on the pitch. It's gone today".
Richards continued, highlighting his original wondering when the event initially happened.
" It's kicked at]Rice], and you could say it could be a dark card. When I first saw the occurrence, I was thinking he's going to find sent off around. Veltman, I slowed it down. And look, you delayed anything down, there's a small peter on it. But there's no way, there's no way in past that should be a second golden card. I just ca n't get on board with that. If that's a golden cards, finally sport has actually gone. You ca n't give a yellow card".
