Rene Meulensteen was a key figure for Sir Alex Ferguson during the legendary owner's last years at the team and believes Erik ten Hag may still flourish in his chosen method
Rene Meulensteen, a former assistant director at Manchester United, has urged Erik ten Hag to keep up the rules that gave him the work at Old Trafford in the first place, insisting that he is only a few players away from having everything he needs to succeed.
Ten Hag arrived from Ajax in 2022 after enjoying victory playing a liberal, high-pressing, possession-based style of play, but has had to make agreement to that since arriving at Manchester United.
But, Felix Dutchman Meulensteen, who was junior team manager before becoming assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson and eventually became Fulham manager, believes that Ten Hag's fight to establish his name on this aspect is more about perspective than about staff.
Meulensteen: Erik ten Hag needs to stay to to rules
