One of his key people at Euro 2024 has urged England director Gareth Southgate to remain until the 2026 World Cup.

In order to help England win their second successive European Championship ultimate on Sunday when they take on Spain in Berlin, Southgate hopes to win the people's team their first major award since the 1966 World Cup.

The original England defender has been in demand since September 2016 and has now overseen more than 100 games for his land in that time.

Whatever happens in Sunday's last, the 53-year-old is out of agreement in December, but information on Saturday night claimed he may be offered a new offer by the Football Association.

Speaking ahead of the game against Spain, midfielder Declan Rice backed Southgate to sit for another two centuries, insisting that the director had the support of the whole crew, despite criticism from viewers and the internet for some poor appearances at Euro 2024.

The FA wanted him to remain until '26, I woke up to the news this morning. He has had a wonderful time on this trip and this path," Rice said.

There is no denying that we can do something unique for him, and I know for a fact that the boys will like him until he's 26.

" The way he looks after us, how calm he is, how he is as a man-manager, how he is on the training pitch with us, he's bottom.

" But none of us have spoken to him. That's none of our organization. Whatever he wants to accomplish, whatever makes him happy, I'm sure he'll make the right decision. But I'm certain that he has everyone's support to continue."
