Thompson elaborated on the factors that attracted him to Dallas in his opening press event.
It's challenging to break up.
Often, it's a long time coming. Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors, who had 13 years and four NBA finals up, failed to come to terms on a new lease this off-season.
Then Thompson's a Dallas Maverick. And he's ready to turn the website. The Mavericks introduced Thompson alongside winter mergers Quentin Grimes and Naji Marshall on Tuesday, and Thompson spoke with advertising for the first time as a Maverick.
He claimed that Golden State's situation was" tough" last year where it was n't as joyful as it had been in the past, and that the split was "necessary."
At first, you might feel a little upset, but gradually you come to realize what you did, according to Thompson. " They ca n't take that away from you as far as championships .... the impact you have on the community. That will always survive.
" Often, breakups are needed to do what's appropriate. No every NBA player has experienced this.
When asked what it was like to leave Golden State after 13 times, Klay Thompson responded," I was perhaps a little upset at second... sometimes breakups are required to do what's right. Not the first NBA player to experience this. "pic. twitter.com/6ENHZ8IY8K
Thompson cited Scottie Pippen's departure from the Chicago Bulls to the Portland Trail Blazers as a motivation for his move to the Mavericks in his later job. Prior to spending his final six months with the Houston Rockets and Trail Blazers, Pippen won six tournaments during his Hall of Fame career in Chicago.
" I look forward to being rejuvenated around," Thompson continued". There is still a lot of great sports in the tank.
Thompson leaves a Warriors team that placed 10th overall and did n't make it past the play-in round for a Mavericks team that made it to the NBA Finals. He'll sing alongside two of league's most dangerous offensive arms in Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving.
After being slowed by destructive ACL and Achilles accidents in subsequent seasons, Thompson believes that joining the Mavericks" may drive glory."
" Whether you play sports or work in the business planet or whatever market, sometimes change really can drive greatness," Thompson said". A novel change of scenery may do wonders. I'm really thankful for my day at Golden State."
He even discussed the factors that brought him to Dallas.
Thompson continued," I really felt like moving on could reinvigorate me and do something unique for the rest of my job. Dallas ' young players, as well as their play fashion, made them so appealing...
" When I was watching the finals, and I'm watching the Mavs make a move for the final, I only saw myself fitting in really well with this team and the employees. They appear to enjoy for and with each other, both physically and mentally. That piqued my interest greatly.
Irving wears the No. 11 that Thompson wore in Golden State. Thompson did change to the shirt number. 31. He said that he'll do so in part to recognize Indiana Pacers shooting wonderful Reggie Miller, who Thompson says he modeled his game after.
