Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle talked about his friendship with the late Bill Walton before Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals. Walton helped Carlisle see a Grateful Dead show on a first date with his wife.
Before Game 4 of the Indiana Pacers ' Eastern Conference finals match against the Boston Celtics, Rick Carlisle may have focused solely on sports. With a 3–0 loss to Boston, Indiana is in danger of losing the playoff game and losing to its star shield for the second straight game.
But, Carlisle mostly wanted to talk about his pal Bill Walton, who died Monday at the age of 71. From 1986 to 1988, the Pacers ' manager and the late Hall of Famer played for the Celtics as part of a two-season partnership.
" I wanted to mention, with the departure of Bill Walton now, how little he meant to me and so many people I'm near to", said Carlisle, who revealed that the two of them were on a word network with others from the 1986 Celtics. " Some of the thoughts are beyond precious".
Carlisle mentioned that he and Walton have exchanged writings throughout the Pacers ' playoff run and that he read some of them to his players on Monday to demonstrate their effect on the game.

Walton and the role he played in the team's existence were much more specific to Carlisle and shared by him. Walton, who is well-known for his passion of the Grateful Dead, made a first-date with the person who later became his wife thanks to Walton's connections to the band.
" I have him to bless perhaps for being married to my partner, Donna", said Carlisle. " Our first day was to a Dying show in Washington, D. C. I called Bill and, this is 1987, I said' Appearance, I got a day with a woman who I think is quite amazing. I'd really like to see the Capital Centre's Dying performance. I do n't have any tickets. May you assist?'"
