When Redick and GM Rob Pelinka introduced their new head coach on Monday, final expectations were set.

The Los Angeles Lakers have brain coaches named JJ Redick. On Monday, the former NBA shooter who had no prior training knowledge beyond the youth level was appointed as the sideline leader of one of the most legendary sports franchises.
Redick, the team's general manager, was publicly criticized on his 40th day on Thursday when he signed a reportedly four-year deal with the team. He acknowledged the evident in his opening speech.

Redick and Pelinka spoke about the unorthodox hire for the better part of the hour, including LeBron James ' lack of involvement with the franchise and his failed relationship with UConn coach Dan Hurley ( hint: not very much ).
Why Dodgers hired Redick
Before they met with press, Pelinka cited Redick's "extraordinary sports IQ" and "rigorous research" in a speech announcing him as head coach. It's a topic that played out throughout Monday's media event. Pelinka and Redick's strategy as well as his analysis of the basketball game from a contemporary scientific point of view have been constantly praised by Pelinka.
Pelinka said," Occasionally it's easy to get swept up in habits of doing the same thing that everyone else is doing." It was really significant for us to examine whether we could do something a little different when we began this research.
It became clear from our conversations with JJ that he had a unique view and perception on baseball and how it should be taught.

Redick echoed those sentiments by focusing on gamer development, resilience to the constantly-evolving game, and instilling a tradition of competitors as the guiding principles of his training philosophy. In the event that the Lakers retain possible free adviser LeBron James alongside Anthony Davis, he also acknowledged the anticipations he's placing on a roster that includes two All-American people.
" If the Los Angeles Lakers on Day 1 getting better every single day, I'm pretty confident that come April, we will be a tournament- ability team," Redick said". You still have to have a lot of stuff go right, and you ca n't have a lot go wrong. That's every second tournament team. Simply acknowledge that."
LeBron James ' participation in Redick hiring: what part did it play?
James ' commitment as a free agent is likely to include an opt-out section. The most expected determination of the NBA season will be whether he rejoins the Lakers or leaves for another team. Friends of Redick and James have co-hosted a radio. That connection has fueled rumors that James instantly played a role in Redick's hiring decision.
Per Pelinka, that was n't the case. And that was James ' choice.
" He was extremely supportive of our business in this approach," Pelinka said". That's a unique term — and I want to be mindful of the term — than involved. We respected LeBron's decision to not be significantly involved in our process, even though he was extremely supportive of us.
Before the Lakers offered him the task last month, Redick claimed that he and James had consciously avoided discussing the situation.
" He did n't provide any advice," Redick said of James". About 30 minutes after receiving the job offer, LeBron and I did n't discuss the Lakers ' employment until Thursday afternoon. Both of us had really deliberate intentions.
He did not want to be involved in this, I knew. I wanted to avoid making hypothetical connections with people I consider to be a friend and have a lot of respect for.
Per Pelinka, Davis— who's signed through the 2027- 28 time—" chose to be very included" in the interviewing process and "was really excited for today". He also noted that James ' decision-making process will be "respectful" by the company and that James ' continued involvement with the Lakers would be in line with Redick's championship-level expectations.
" If those two people are at the core of what we're doing, we like our possibilities", Pelinka said.
Redick, Pelinka discuss Dan Hurley
The rhinoceros in the room was the subject of Redick and Pelinka's conversation. While Redick was a major destination in the Lakers ' training search all along, he really officially was n't the No. 1 option.

May Redick's spend be profitable for the Lakers?
In the face of great stakes, Redick's choice in Los Angeles comes with heightened attention. This season, the Warriors are under pressure to keep James and bring him back to winning ways with James and Davis as key players.
Redick, however, moves straight to the corner from the ESPN spread booth without having previously coached older basketball players. In his three times with the system, he rose to prominence as the network's leading NBA broadcaster. In his 15 years as an NBA killing specialist, he received praise for both his hockey mind and his three-point shot.
The Lakers are playing the lottery because Redick's winning season-level head coaching success can be directly correlated with those in Redick's pursuit. Redick is focusing on the fantastic prospect that awaits him rather than the noise.
When asked if there were any misconceptions about himself that he would like to dispel, Redick responded," I really do n't give a f***." Seriously. I want to mentor the Lakers. I want to be the team's manager. I do n't want to dispel anything.
" I want to lead the NBA well." I want to get tournaments. My people should have the best possible jobs. That's all I f***ing treatment about".
